Day 9: Onward to Bosnia-Herzegovina
Today we headed to Bosnia-Herzegovina! I must confess that I didn't know much about Bosnia prior to this trip, so I was very curious to see what we would find there.

Our first stop in Bosnia was Stolac, where we visited its necropolis, led by local guide Edo. Stolac's necropolis is home to tombstones (stećci) dating back to the 13th to 15th centuries.
From the necropolis, we traveled to the village of Stolac itself, where we took a short walk around town and learned about how it was devastated during the war years (and is still rebuilding today).
In Stolac, we had a group lunch at Restoran Behar. When we walked into the restaurant, we found a HUGE buffet table piled with food waiting for us: meats and cheeses, chicken veggie soup, spinach pies, fruits and vegetables, an incredible baklava for dessert, and several Bosnian dishes whose names I unfortunately did not jot down. What a spread!

After our big lunch, we hopped back on our bus and headed to our next destination, Tekija Blagaj, a former monastery for Turkish dervishes. This was a beautiful, peaceful space.
Arrival in Mostar
From Blagaj, we made our way to Mostar, our home for the evening.

After checking into our hotel, we met up for a brief orientation walk. We got our first glimpse of Mostar's famous Old Bridge, and it was just as beautiful in person as I thought it would be!

After our walk, we had a bit of free time to wander around on our own before dinner. We made our way to an area with a lovely viewpoint of the bridge, pictured at right.

For dinner, we met back up with the group at Restaurant Šadrvan. There, we enjoyed ćevapi (a minced meat dish) for our main, and a boiled apple for dessert!
