Day 6: On the Road to Plitvice
After an eventful day the day prior, today was more low key, as we traveled from Motovun to Plitivce.
First up was Opatija, a resort town with a seaside promenade. There, we had a few hours to explore. It’s a lovely town and we spent most of our time walking along the water. We also saw the Croatian Walk of Fame, and though most of the famous Croatians were a mystery to me, I did recognize one: Goran Ivanišević (I’m a huge tennis fan).
For lunch, we snagged a table at Roko (recommended by our handy Rick Steves guidebook). We opted for a pumpkin pasta with prawns--our dish is pictured at left. Delicious!
We hopped back on our bus and continued toward Plitvice. We stopped midway for a break in Senj, a harbor town that was once home to 16th-century pirates. I personally was more interested in the opportunity for a gelato break :)
In the evening, we arrived at our hotel in Plitvice. We had a group dinner at a nearby buffet restaurant and, somehow, I managed to forget to take a single photograph all evening--truly shocking and out of character for me!

After dinner, we tucked in for an early bedtime; we knew we had a big day ahead of us the next day at Plitvice Lakes National Park. And, spoiler alert: it would wind up being possibly my favorite day of the trip!
